Along with glorious black gold (oil), coal has been one of the central driving forces of human industrialization. These black dirty rocks that are known as coal, used to be a life form. They used to have green leaves, beautiful flowers and sweet fruits; they even used to provide the original fresh air of this planet. Yes, coal is the sediment of ancient plants; however, the irony is that this previous life form now has the potential to destroy our environment, instead of being its protector. These decayed and carbonised plants now can produce black choking smoke, thick dust and create acid rain.
Due to the development of technology and more awareness of the earth’s environment, coal now has the chance to begin to ‘clean up its act’. In today’s program, Kathy and Sophie visit a ‘clean coal plant’, introducing you to advanced technology and showing you the coal’s transformation from a heavy polluting fuel to a source of cleaner energy. There is just one problem with all this though; our hosts are wearing such beautiful dresses... It seems that Sophie is really concerned that she will get dirty; after all, she does have an important date after the visit. Will her protective measure ensure her cleanliness?
