As a means of public transport, buses can help reduce CO2 emissions. However, in China, along with the improvement of people’s living standards, more and more people now own private cars. Do you think cars make travelling that much more convenient? Not necessarily… On the roads, there are often traffic jams because there are too many cars. In parking areas, drivers have to wait a long time to find a place, and once they found it, they often have to pay a fee for it. Worse still, due to the large number of cars on the road, they are contributing significantly to the greenhouse effect and adding to photochemical hazes that are seen over today’s cities.
How can we address those problems? In this series, actress Zhou Xun gives her suggestions whilst athlete extraordinaire, Wang Junxia, will get on a bus in an effort to persuade people to use public transportation. Well known ‘cross talk’ actors Jiang Kun and Dai Zhicheng also lend their support for public transportation. Chelsea Mark does his part by walking up to people on the street and persuading them to take the bus. In an effort to encourage them, he raps for them and even sings Chinese pop songs. Is he successful in his mission?
Kathy adds a further dimension by going to Tokyo, Japan. In this massive city which means of transport do the people prefer? Private car, bus or subway?
